Oprah Winfrey talks with Thich Nhat Hanh Thich Nhat Hanh, born in Vietnam in 1926, became a Buddhist monk at the young age of 16. A monk is usually someone who practices religious asceticism. He is known for being one of the greatest techers of nonviolence in the world. During the war in Vietnam, he founded a student association to rebuild towns that were devastated. He calls his form of Buddhism "engaged Buddhism." About a year ago, Oprah Winfrey did a segment on her show with Thich Nhat Hanh. He speaks about the four mantras that one should practice with their beloved. |

Seven Years In Tibet Brad Pitt stars in this true story film about an Austrian mountain climber who goes on a journey to climb the Himalayas and disappears for seven years. During this time frame he ends up in Tibet at the time of China's takeover and befriends the Dalai Lama. The Dalai Lama is a Buddhist monk who is a spiritual leader in Tibet. The most current Dalai Lama is the 14th, Tenzin Gyatso. |
