Jesus is considered the originator of Christianity. Jesus was born around 49BCE to 29CE. Many Jew’s in Jesus time believed that they were living in the “end times.” They expected a period of turbulence and suffering and a final great battle, when God would destroy all the enemies. They believed this would inaugurate a new age of justice and love. Some expected a new Garden of Eden, where the good people who remained after the Judgment would eat year-round from trees filled with fruit and women would no longer suffer in childbirth. A common expectation of many Jews in Jesus's day believed the Messiah will come one day and be the leader.
With in all these belief Jesus was born in a miraculous birth in Nazareth, a town located in Northern Israel. He was given birth by the virgin mother Mary of Bethlehem, a town south of Jerusalem. Wise men followed a guiding star that leads them to the baby’s birth.
There are many artists that have portrayed Jesus in countless ways, but there is no painting of him while he was alive. At this point we have guessed his features but there is no definite answer about his features or manners.
Everything we know about Jesus is described in the four gospels of the New Testament. The four gospels are written remembrances of Jesus’s words and deeds, recorded some years after his death by people who believed in him.The gospels however tell very little of Jesus until his late 20’s when he began gathering his 12 disciples to travel from town to town to teach about the coming of the kingdom of God. Jesus believed and trusted God. He had a very unique relationship with God, God was his father. This extreme and special relationship was the central idea around Christianity. Jesus most impressive characteristic was his emphasis on universal love. He preached love in many forms compassion, tolerance, forgiveness, acceptance, helpfulness, generosity and gratitude. At a very short period of 3yrs Jesus was arrested in Jerusalem at Passover by authorities who considered him a threat to the public order. The Romans viewed him as a potential source of political disorder he was arrested, whipped and nailed to a cross to be crucified. This was a degrading public form of execution. Death came from blood loss and suffocation and shock. Jesus died on a Friday and buried quickly near the site of the crucifixion just before the Jewish Sabbath was to begin. On the following Sunday the gospel reports that his tomb was empty, his disciples came to the conclusion that he was to return to life. Forty days later, the New Testament says, “he ascended into the sky, promising to return again”.
